29th November: International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

In 1977, United Nations decided that 29th November would be from that date the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. This day was chosen because on the same date in 1947 the Assembly approved in the Resolution 181 (II) the partition of Palestine, where it was stipulated the creation of a Jewish State and an Arab State in Palestine.

Nowadays, is well known that this resolution has not been fulfilled, and the figures show the huge crisis caused by the conflict with Israel. According to data from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), in June 2008 there were registered a total of 4.618141 people.

60% of the Palestinian families live under the poverty line, with severe restrictions of movement and problems on the access to education, health services or employment under decent conditions. This situation worsens specially in Gaza, where 90% of the population depends on the humanitarian aid, which now reaches Gaza little by little due to the blockage of the area by the Israeli government.
