Two social enterprises are born from the Movement for Peace training workshops
Bileca and Trebinje, two municipalities in Eastern Herzegovina, where the official but incomplete rates of unemployment, 26.17% and 9.21% respectively, reflect the general situation of the country, and appears as one of the main problems, which is particularly affecting vulnerable groups decreasing their chances of integration in society.
MPDL-Trebinje, in the framework of the social project, during 2007, as per the particularities of each municipality, identified and implemented two vocational training workshops of 4 months of duration, mainly addressed to the integration of vulnerable women in social life and labour market, as 50% of unemployed people in both municipalities are women.
In Bileca, with long tradition in textile industry, that hasn’t been recovered after the conflict, and that was source of employment mostly for women, a knitting and weaving workshop was organized and, in Trebinje, with more than 15 sport clubs which count around 100 members who have to travel around 2 hours in order to receive kiro-massage services, a workshop was developed to cover this need.
Workshops included theoretical and practical training on the related matters, as well as two seminars on how to start and manage a social economy enterprise, in order to promote registration of participants in association, and with the purpose to overcome the lack of employment opportunities in the area. After the workshops, participants were provided material and equipment so they can start up own businesses, either individually or collectively.
As a result of these two workshops, first women association has been created in Bileca, Association of Women “Tanja”, given name on the youngest of the 6 enterprising women that decided to register, and Trebinje will count in near future with the “Center for Kiro-massage”, association shaped as per the will of 4 of the participants of the workshop that will open up its doors next month.
