Movement for Peace

Movement for Peace -MPDL- is a non-religious and non-profit organisation founded in 1983 with headquarters in Madrid. We aim to promote peace, equality and human rights through our delegations in Spain and in 11 countries and territories: Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba, Morocco, Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Mali, Niger, occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon and Jordan.

Human Rights, Gender, Migration, International Protection and Education for Peace are the main areas of our projects and actions both in Spain within the social action and internationally within the development and humanitarian aid fields, with more than 705.800 beneficiaries yearly.

Since our foundation, volunteers support most of our projects in Spain, and we are promoting volunteering in the field since 2012. We hold the Presidency of the European network of civil society organisations Solidar and the Vice-Presidency of the Spanish Volunteering Platform.

Within the EU Aid Volunteers initiative, we are certified as sending organisation and lead the project Volunteering capacities matter: Strengthening organizational capacities for a suitable humanitarian volunteering management aiming at:

Strengthening organisation capacities. 8 humanitarian organisations will receive support and assistance to obtain the EU Aid Volunteers hosting organisations’ certificate. They will also participate in trainings on humanitarian volunteering, humanitarian aid, disaster response and protection in contexts of humanitarian crisis from a gender perspective, among others.

Through an International Consortium. An International Consortium among 10 organisations has been created to carry out the project: 2 organisations from EU countries, Spain and Italy, and 8 from third countries in Jordan, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Colombia, with extensive experience in the humanitarian projects management field.

So that in the near future… From 2019, participant organisations within the current project will be certified as EUAV hosting organisations. From that moment on, we will launch the deployment phase that will strengthen the humanitarian teams in contexts of humanitarian crisis while building a more united and peaceful world.
