Reflection exercise around the legal situation of women in Middle East

The city of Amman housed from 20th to 23rd of October the first out of 4 conferences titled Amendment-change of the laws concerning women´s rights “family law”, which objective is to think over women´s rights.

During the first day, a total of 13 NGO attended the meeting, that held a fruitful debate about the unfair legal situation of women in Middle East, going over legal topics as the honour crimes or the legal dependence of women with regard to men, fostering the coordination among the associations and the gathering of documentation for the common aims.

This series of conferences are held within the Project “Promotion of women´s rights through the support to the Network of Arab Women in Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria and Egypt”, that carries out the Jordanian Women´s Union (JWU), supported by the agreement signed by Movement for Peace and the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID).

The three remaining meetings are foreseen to take place in the cities of Ramala (Palestine), Beirut (Lebanon) and Cairo (Egypt).
