Middle East - Occupied Palestinian Territories

Working with disabled children

Working with disabled children

Young women are the most vulnerable social groups in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Young people are becoming more numerous and poverty worsens in those households where women assume the role of head of household. This group is discriminated against in terms of salary level and Social Security benefits.

In parallel, women are excluded from active participation in their communities (in the political, social and economic contexts), which prevents them to develop their skills, knowledge and values, and therefore fully exploit its potential.

MAIN LINES OF WORK

For this reason, the three priority lines of work of the Movement for Peace -MPDL- in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are: the disabled, women and youth.

Our main lines of action are to improve sanitation and living conditions of people and strengthening the social organization of women and youth as agents of change. These actions are carried out in both the West Bank (Jerusalem, Nablus, Hebron, Ramallah) and the Gaza Strip.

Similarly, our organization is concerned with the strengthening of civil society, and therefore, it works directly to promote resilience of children, youth and women through training, while promoting networking and joint activities with local NGOs.

OUR ACTION

  • Promote and enhance civil democratic values in Palestine by strengthening youth.
  • Involving young people as active citizens that support the development of the community.
  • Contribute to the fullfilment of the right to mental health in the Occupied Palestinian territories.
  • Encourage the decision-making capacity of young women in rural areas.
In context

The Occupied Palestinian Territories live a very complicated situation in which the day to day is marked by poor economic opportunities, low education, lack of resources for children and youth, and the Israeli military occupation.

The border closures imposed, restrictions on mobility and the way of resources, house demolitions and the construction of the Wall are some clear violations of international humanitarian law that the government of Israel uses as measures of collective punishment against the population Palestine.
